“Real estate and home improvement were interests of Jennifer’s from an incredibly young age, so when the opportunity presented itself to re-prioritize her career goals, real estate was the obvious choice.”

At 23, when Jennifer Dion first began her career in real estate, she had been pursuing a nursing career, and life “presented an opportunity for growth.” As a suddenly single mom of a young son that had been diagnosed with Autism, she knew she needed to save her caregiving capacity for her son and she needed a full-time career which would allow her to be a full-time mother. As a member of a military family all her life, making an adjustment was something she had been raised to do. The decision was easy when she reflected on her dream at 12 years of age – to be a Realtor for a local Colorado brokerage called Rawhide. Real estate and home improvement were interests of Jennifer’s from an incredibly young age, so when the opportunity presented itself to re-prioritize her career goals, real estate was the obvious choice.

In Jennifer’s first year in real estate, she was named Rookie of the Year and Top Producer. Since then she has worked in 3 major markets and demonstrated Top Producer success in all of them, every year in her career. Jennifer spent 7 years as Director of Sales and Marketing for a high-end custom home builder in the Washington DC area where she learned about new construction and home design from the ground up.

Jennifer made her son Jake an integral part of her real estate success. Before COVID, she would often bring him with her to open houses or when showing homes to clients who were bringing their own children. Jake knew the open house ropes by age 5. He knew how to turn on all the lights, set out the cookies and drinks, help mom with signs, and setting out marketing materials. He was also skilled at showing the client’s children around a house. He had a simple saying when he finally began to speak at 6 ½ years old. “Zip it, lock it, key in the pocket, hands behind your back, and stay in line.” Jake had his own desk in her office for many years. Many afternoons after Jake was out of school, he would work side by side with Jennifer in their office.

Jennifer says, “Looking back, I am really proud of my younger self for being so brave to just jump right in and find a path forward. I love my career. I love working with people to find their home and to help them move on to new homes. It is just as rewarding to me as nursing would have been, simply different. My priority to balance career and family life remains my goal. I am driven by my need to be a mom first and to care for my son. Real estate has helped me realize that goal and provide us with a nice life. My goals are not money-driven, but the quality of life focused.”

Jennifer and her husband, Dan own a farmhouse on the north side of Colorado Springs which her son Jake calls, “his territory.” Together they grow vegetables, herbs, beautiful gardens, and have a thriving apiary where they keep Italian honeybees and harvest honey. She is an advocate in the Autism community, a proud supporter of our military and first responders, and assists Jake with his thriving career as an artist. She and her husband also host enviable Murder Mystery dinners in their 140-year-old barn.
